About Arcady Plants

/ˈɑːkədi/ AR-kuh-dee an ideal rustic paradise

Arcady Plants is a small, independent nursery growing beautiful, reliable plants using traditional methods. We aim to provide a mixed collection of highly-regarded tried and trusted garden favourites, combined with an offering of rare and unusual plants that our customers are unlikely to find easily elsewhere. We sell these plants online, at farmers markets and at specialist plant fairs.

The nursery was started in 2024 by Rory McDonnell and Susie Curtis, with all of the plants being grown in small batches from their home garden in rural Suffolk. Rory and Susie are both professional horticulturalists, with careers spent working in the gardens of the Royal Horticultural Society, English Heritage, the National Trust for Scotland, as well as other notable gardens such as Hungerdowns in Essex and Fullers Mill in Suffolk.

As practical gardeners ourselves, we have no interest in selling plants unless they are what we consider to be ‘garden-worthy’. For us, this means they must be species and cultivars that are strong-growing, and will not require too much mollycoddling by our customers. We grow almost all of our plants outside year-round, so you can be assured there will be no worries about their ability to deal with difficult weather once you get them home. On the odd occasion we grow something new and exciting that we have not trialled over a number of years, we will always make that clear on our labelling.

We believe it is a good thing that people are becoming more environmentally aware, and that is why we would like to assure our customers that all of the plants they receive from us are growing in peat-free compost from a local Suffolk producer, and we control any plant pests using biological controls rather than harsh chemicals.

We want to use our knowledge and experience to help our customers find the right plants for them. So, if you have questions at all, please get in touch and we are always more than happy to talk plants with you.
